STUFF

I met this guy once, he was a great guy, great energy...Very sad that he was flooded out and lost so many things that he loved. I started to thing about the idea of STUFF, I had a painting stolen recently, made me very sad..but in the end it is just STUFF..you are not your STUFF, Your STUFF does not DEFINE you. Some people need a lot of STUFF to define themselves or fill an emptiness. I dont have a lot of STUFF, I amke a lot of STUFF because I have a lot of resources inside me. I was born rich on the inside and poor on the outside, this is much prefered to the opposite. I know many an empty rich person and no new amount of STUFF can fill that hole, no new car, no new tattoo, no new house. I have a friend who has a friend who killed himself because he lost his fortune and was down to his last 5 million. I still have a fighters chance of making some real money and buying a lot of stuff but I will never be poor on the inside, I have too much stuff in there.

Here is a photo I took in Central Park during Irene..The park was a ghost town,  I was the only soul around..while I was taking this photo with my cell phone, the AP took a photo of me taking the photo...Art always occurs out in the "extra mile"

Hurricane Irene

Most people are huddling up, running for high ground or buying flashlights. I am going to make glass art in brooklyn. That is why I am gardega.  I hope to be able to find a way back without mass transit (it ends at noon).   If I ever go out it will be making art, I shall die with the proverbial boots on...be well!

NYC Earthquake

Yesterday in NYC there was a 5.8 earthquake. I didnt feel it but a lot of people did. Im hoping it didnt mess up our presidents golf game! The funny thing was I went on my smart Phone right away to find info. after I heard about it and the only info. I could find immediately was on facebook..not on CNN, not on FOX, but facebook...talk about strange..

Odd Nerdrum update

The painter odd nerdrum will not be allowed to paint in prison...(If he has to go into prison) because he makes a living as a painter..if it was just a hobby he would be allowed to paint but the prison system in Norway doesnt allow you to continue your "trade" behind bars....

Florentine Sculpture

The amount of skill to carve a piece of marble is insane...(Ive never tried it but I just know)...Skill is a lost art in this sham of an art-world we now live in...One day I will teach myself to carve some marble, I have alwayswanted to give it a go...First I must visit florence

I am painting a five foot canvas today. I may videotape the whole thing...(If I am not too lazy) otherwise I will document with photos..Even if you are tired or with headaches you have to make your deadlines...even the ones you miss. The title of this one is "The Eyes of Texas" I already painted it once and someone wanted a version. I will dedicate this to my father because he lived for Texas...

Working on book cover of Westchester County will document the process...Then I start a 4 x 6 canvas commission which I will also document..The large commission is a copy of the painting on this website (the Cow skull) One thing I dont like about art is the prep work side but I have learned how important doing the right prep is....

the boxer

I am a boxer..a full on street fighter of art...if I get knocked down I am back in the ring in 20 minutes with stitches. Now I shall start my Shanghai show! I just went through 1,000 of my old paintings to figure out where I am going...I have lost more paintings than most artists paint in a life....I am going to rip this shanghai show to pieces...The gloves are on baby..lets roll.....another six months of 14 hour days seven days a week...thats why I am GARDEGA, I dont talk about art in cafes, I make art in the ring. time to work and quit whining.

The eye of texas

I have been commisioned to paint a painting for a restaurant...I have no idea why restaurants always want my work...I dont even paint food!..I am going to video tape the entire process on this one and post it. The restaurant wants a copy of a painting I made that willie nelson now owns called "the eyes of texas" I will buy canvas today

back to work

Burying a parent is something so surreal and hard that I have no words to explain...Now, I will do my best to get my butt into gear and work again..Feel like mike tyson hit me in the head with a toyota. Havent even been able to eat or paint....I am a fighter so I will get back in the ring now. I look like ten miles of bad texas road but I will now shave and shower be the rock star champion that gardega once was and quit crying like a little girl...man up or go home...
