Tea and Theatre--the who

I am a big who fan--always have been..this song is a thrice-posted tale but I have never heard a song that cuts closer to the core of what it is like to grow older and to reflect on your life and art. This to me is why art is as important as any other field, becuse there aint too many doctors or lawyers gonna help you experience an emotion like this or move you with a piece of art--then again they may save your life or keep you out of jail which is actually more important than art but this song still kicks ass and chokes me up. Music can do a lot of things that words and painting cant. Sorry for the commercial before the vid. I wont buy either of the obnoxious products,  hate advertising.

Gardega Copies Dali

I sat down one day and decided to make an exact copy of a dali drawing.I can copy Dali drawings better than any living artist, of this I have no doubt as I have studied dali for years on a level that I am confident no one else has...I read 25 books on dali including every Biography I could find and I studied his drawing and colors like a scientist studies paramecium. I was obsessed with Dali in my 20's and I still hold a candle to him--Now I hold a candle to his intellect, more so than his actual art. he was a polymath and this is rare for an artist. Most artist do one thing (like monkeys) and they do it well and they do it over and over and over like a baker who bakes the same bread everyday. I need to dance all over the stage of art--I get bored. This drawing was presented to a movie studio that was making a movie about dali (I wanted to be Dali's hand, the guy who they showed painting that was supposed to be dali but it never panned out) I think I did a decent job of copying my childhood hero here. I could have been a forger. 

words of the day--dylan thomas

I practically grew up in the Whitehorse Tavern in NYC. This was Dylan Thomas' favorite bar and the last place he drank before he died. My apt ( a block away) was tiny so I called the white horse my "living room." My close friend was a bartender there so when it was crowded on the weekend and I couldnt get up to the bar I used to go to the jukebox and put on The Doors LA woman and the was his clue that ALEX was there so he would put my drink at the end of the bar. Regardless, the whitehorse is famous for The great welsh poet Dylan Thomas. There is a painting there of him that stares back at you from the wall of him at the bar. The painting isn't great but I love it because it is seared into my memory.  On a rare occasion I will stop in and visit my old ghosts and it isn't the same place it once was but the energy and the ghost of Mr. Thomas still sits at the bar.

Leonardo learning: absolute certainty

I personally believe that if you achieve absolute certainty in your own head about what you want to achieve in life you can have that thing as your own. You have to train your brain to have absolute certainty that you are worthy of the goal and that there is no way you wont achieve it. The odds of making a living in art are about the same as getting hit by lightning but lightning is a chance event and art is anything but. Art is a field that requires a person to accept great challenges and great obstacles. In order to handle these you have to believe that you are great and that there is no way you can fail. This is not being cocky nor is it be an egoist (although those things can help) You simply must believe you are the best. I do and I always have because If I didnt, I would have quit along with the 95% of my fellow college chums who no longer make art. In fact, I think 1% of artists make a living in art and a smaller percentage of those make art they actually believe in or like. Many people eke out a living in art drawing for corporations. etc, that is fine, but I have to put myself in my work. I can no more remove my being from my art than I can remove the blue from the sky. People hire me because they want a gardega. I dont ape other artists or draw other peoples cartoons--- I make gardega's and I make a lot of them. You must believe in your own voice, your own art like you believe the earth is round, another words--no doubts. You can train your brain this way. It just takes time and effort. I am working on 8 childrens books right now. I will publish half of them, I am sure of this even though I have never published a sinlgle one. I am working on a new series of glass that I have never done and I will sell every piece. I have sold every piece of art I have ever made and I have made thousands. ( I am not bragging, I work way to hard to need to fill up my own balloon with boasting.) You simply have to believe there  is no way in hell it WONT happen. I think a lot of people are afraid to admit it is this simple of an equation and they create excuses to justify why it can be done and for those I leave these fine words.
