the fall of a tiger by gardega

I have an ear/ eye for greek tragedy. I am a fan of mythology and of all its modern parallels, just as america is rome on the cusp of the "great decline" we have multitudes of  characters who fit perfectly into the ancient mold of tragic figures. Some have fallen by pride, others avarice and some have danced a bit too long with dionysus or bacchus. If you step too far into the waters of sensual pleasure or drunkeness or indulgence the tide will sweep you away and leave you washed up on the distant shore of failure with a body far too weak to swim back to your spiritual or intellectual home. There is no swimming back across the hellspont, no bridge back across the rubicon. The charms and shiny things of life took your eye off what "matters" and the fall is great and the climb back up the mountain too steep. Tiger woods is a perfect tragic figure, he owned the world and now it is gone. Water through the fingers... I dont care about golf nor do I care about tiger. I am interested in symbols and mythology.  The greeks invented the marathon, the symbol of life and endurance and pacing..If you burn out to fast it is a long walk to the finish line or a tragic fall to the side of the road..methinks..sampsons hair has been cut and the tiger has fallen.

plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose
