assistants

I recently hired some assistants for various projects. I have to say this about "kids today" I am appalled at the idea of what kids (young artists) think work is. I had kids stand around and do nothing while I sandblasted glass for hours..they didnt even think about cleaning up the work space..I had kids wait outside for an hour never even checking to see if I was possibly inside the studio. I had another assistant leave to LA without returning my paints ( I fired his ass)... I cant even explain how depressing it is. If you think you will survive in the art world in NYC by half assing it then your are so doomed I cant even explain. You have to work like their is a fire under your ass, you have to actually be alive and awake and passionate. It brought me right back to art school and the "cafe artists" the kids who sat around the cafeteria and and cafes all day. I have always worked my ass off and even when I was an assistant to other artists I stayed on top of my game. I didnt show up late, or half asleep or brain dead. I actually care about the people who work for me but if you dont wake up then I cant help you and the art world isnt going to even give you a second look. The reason I make a living in art is because I work like a crazy person whose home is on fire. There is no other way. If you want to go work for UPS or western union than by all means feel free to be a slacker and and a half ass artist..I tried to help ya.
