DAUMIER

Daumier was a french caricaturist..He died poor and was even jailed for his scathing drawings..he had courage and he had guts. He was a big influence on picasso and others. In my mind modern art owes a large debt to caricaturists like daumier..they were the first guys to distort reality visually. Caricature is more real than truth. Daumier was a master of line..his drawings were sublime, I am a huge fan. He should have been rich and famous like picasso but because his work was "commercial" i.e printed in newspapers etc it wasnt looked on as fine art....if you want to learn to draw...study nature and study him.
