Pop art---dennis hoppers Mao
Dennis hopper was on drugs one night (as usual) and he became spooked by his andy warhol print of mao that hung on his wall. He decided to shoot the thing twice with a gun. The the print just sold for 300k. It had been estimated at only 20k or 30k but those two bullet holes added the right bit of history. I dont care for andy warhol's work but I like to read about him, he really cracks me up and he was a very smart lad. On a side note, this was not a nod to communism--- warhol didnt want the image associated with politics. He just liked the image. He was too smart to be a knee- jerk political artist. I like silkscreens and I am making some soon, very soon. I guess shooting the art gave it a backstory a history. If you can peg art to history it gives it perceived value.
