queens detail

Here is a detail of my Queens cover for the Next Ambassador Yellow Pages. Painting on yellow causes me to paint in a completely different style. I am forced to become a Pop Artist because you have to use bold colors against the yellow. Everything becomes graphic and Pop by default. I was forced into this style by 11th hour panic as the art director stood over me in my studio 5 years ago and I tried to figure out how to paint something that worked. I spent an uneasy first year doing these covers as I felt a stranger in a strange land that I didnt understand...40 covers later I am at home in Pop Land but I prefer to paint on Non-Yellow canvas. It is fun in life to travels new grounds---this is called growth.
