Picasso vs. Velasquez
Picasso knew he could not ever be a better painter than velasquez--He would have to reinvent the rules and play ball in a different court. I am sure this is part of the reason he went "modern." He knew Velasquez was one of the greatest of all time. Then again, change is the only constant..
