art lesson by gardega: geometry

If I ever taught art lessons I would start with this--- A basic and wonderful geometric exercise. If you dont know some geometry you should learn it before you even consider studying art. this is like waxing the car in the karate kid before you can really start the good stuff. Start by using a compass to draw a circle. In this entire exercise keep the compass at the same setting the entire time. We will start by drawing a circle. The king of all shapes and the most perfect thing in the universe.
After you draw your first circle you want to put your sharp compass point on the bottom edge of the circle (green point and draw a new circle whose edge goes through your first point (the red dot) Now you have two circles that overlap.
Now you want to put your compass on (the blue/ purple dot) and swing a new circle that cuts through the center of both circles. you know have three circles.
Now do the same thing on the left side of your design. If you notice you seem to almost have an "eye" in the middle of your project.
Now you want to put your compass on the yellow "dot" and swing a new circle. you now have 5 circles!
Now you want to move your compass to the light blue dot/ intersection and swing a new circle. You now have 6 circles.

Now put your compass on the black dot and swing a new circle so you have 7 circles total and if you look now you have the beginning of a "flower of life" the most brilliant of all geometric. constructs. I could ramble forever about this design.
