color of the day: cobalt blue
I bought a tube of cobalt blue yesterday. Cobalt blue is a great color and it is the color that gave Maxfield Parrish his amazing blue skies. It is sometimes known as Parrish blue because of this. When I was a kid my sister collected blue glass (cobalt glass) Cobalt is very stable and also toxic. I like to use it in my skies but I prefer to have a mix of cerulean (lower and lighter part of sky) and generally towards the top of canvas I use ultramarine and cobalt in different areas. Sometimes I buy cobalt blue "hue" because it is cheaper but it is like buying cheap chocolate--not as good.
