I miss this painting
original gardega for sale
Here is the original oil painting that was used by ambassador publishing for the 2009 queens Yellow Pages. It is pop art and sits in a million queens kitchen drawers (not unlike Campbell Soup) I like when the Yellow Pages will let me get a bit "radical" as yellow pages are generally artistically rather dry. I think there is subtext in this work that you can figure out for yourself. I will post the entire printed final cover (with text) when I have the time. The yellow pages puts my art in millions of homes every year---You cannot ask for greater exposure. I will ebay this piece today or tonight. I wish the flu would leave me.

The Birth Of Rachael
a river flowed, a river ran
it flowed for years through
sacred woods and all was calm and all was good.
and there a sacred figure stood
on Evoo river was rachael born
beneath the sun of ancient time
whose goldeneye did brightly shine
when painting was the fairest art
and TV had not its start.
and craft was fine and craft was fair
and artists drew the fairest hair
and then came change into the woods
and skill was lost and it was not good
and artists became modern fools
and learned no craft in modern schools
and ancient rivers ceased to flow
and the minds of men did cease to grow
and Rachael cried an evoo tear
for the future was already here
and lost to time, an ancient art
yet painting sleeps in higher hearts.

Bernie Madoff Sand Sculpture
I am obsessed with Madoff--- I even wonder what he is doing in jail sometimes. I used to live across the street from his son and my hot sauce got delivered to their building from UPS. Imagine that, Bernie Madoff walking past my box of bernie in hell hot sauce sitiing in his lbby. you cant make that up. This is a thrice posted sand sculpture, it cost me 8 long hours and one hell of a sunburn. Art is hard, dont be an artist. Be an accountant...
Food Series by gardega

My latest creation. I painted this as I thought about the "soothing media" that lulls us into a dreamless sleep of consumerism. I never watch tv except to study it but I do find rachael ray interesting to watch because she loves what she does. I like anyone who has a passion for something. Here she floats on the river evoo soothing and classical and calm and...this is all over the net if you want to google it. (sold)
Bernie in Hell Hot sauce. One morning I was watching the news and the Madoff story broke and sent me to a level of anger I cant really explain. Millions of people lost their savings to one crook. The system had failed us. I created this as my reaction. It became a world famous hot sauce. Anger fuels my art.

Here I painted Media figures on eggs. What is an egg but a beginning, a birth. Media and mass communication is an egg born in our time. The question is what lies in the yellow yolk of media, are their any nutrients to feed the modern soul? (These were in page six, cant find the link.) one dozen painted eggs (all sold)
The last Supper: Fox News. This is about Media and how TV is our new religion. It is the church of the mindless. The media is the message. http://insidecable.blogsome.com/2007/08/26/oooooook-2/ 8 foot by 4 foot oil on board (sold)
I have three more food pieces to complete my series. I already know what they will be. They are tasty ideas. It is hard to be a genius but it is easy to be crazy.
(These were not posted in any order....)
I have been working on my "food series" for three years now. I am only making 8 pieces for this series as I like to work in series of 8. I always make at least 8 pieces for a series (sometimes many, many more) but always at least 8.

words of the day
Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you switch from sails to steam
And in your belly you hold the treasures few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late
I've done a bit of smugglin', I've run my share of grass
I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast
Never meant to last, never meant to last
And I have been drunk now for over two weeks
I passed out and I rallied and I sprung a few leaks
But I got stop wishin', got to go fishin'
Down to rock bottom again
Just a few friends, just a few friends
I go for younger women, lived with several awhile
Though I ran 'em away, they'd come back one day
Still could manage to smile
Just takes a while, just takes a while
Mother, mother ocean, after all the years I've found
My occupational hazard being my occupation's just not around
I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown
I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown

Media and Fine art
No one cares about painting. Today, people care about spectacle. Can painting meet spectacle and maintain dignity and integrity? This is the 5 dollar question. The medium is the message.
Understanding Media (1964)
McLuhan's most widely known work, Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man (1964), is a pioneering study in media theory. In it McLuhan proposed that media themselves, not the content they carry, should be the focus of study — popularly quoted as "the medium is the message". McLuhan's insight was that a medium affects the society in which it plays a role not by the content delivered over the medium, but by the characteristics of the medium itself. McLuhan pointed to the light bulb as a clear demonstration of this concept. A light bulb does not have content in the way that a newspaper has articles or a television has programs, yet it is a medium that has a social effect; that is, a light bulb enables people to create spaces during nighttime that would otherwise be enveloped by darkness. He describes the light bulb as a medium without any content. McLuhan states that "a light bulb creates an environment by its mere presence."[40] More controversially, he postulated that content had little effect on society — in other words, it did not matter if television broadcasts children's shows or violent programming, to illustrate one example — the effect of television on society would be identical. He noted that all media have characteristics that engage the viewer in different ways; for instance, a passage in a book could be reread at will, but a movie had to be screened again in its entirety to study any individual part of it.
[edit] "Hot" and "cool" media
In the first part of Understanding Media, McLuhan also stated that different media invite different degrees of participation on the part of a person who chooses to consume a medium. Some media, like the movies, were "hot" - that is, they enhance one single sense, in this case vision, in such a manner that a person does not need to exert much effort in filling in the details of a movie image. McLuhan contrasted this with "cool" TV, which he claimed requires more effort on the part of viewer to determine meaning, and comics, which due to their minimal presentation of visual detail require a high degree of effort to fill in details that the cartoonist may have intended to portray. A movie is thus said by McLuhan to be "hot", intensifying one single sense "high definition", demanding a viewer's attention, and a comic book to be "cool" and "low definition", requiring much more conscious participation by the reader to extract value.[41]
"Any hot medium allows of less participation than a cool one, as a lecture makes for less participation than a seminar, and a book for less than a dialogue." [42]
Hot media usually, but not always, provide complete involvement without considerable stimulus. For example, print occupies visual space, uses visual senses, but can immerse its reader. Hot media favour analytical precision, quantitative analysis and sequential ordering, as they are usually sequential, linear and logical. They emphasize one sense (for example, of sight or sound) over the others. For this reason, hot media also include radio, as well as film, the lecture and photography.
Cool media, on the other hand, are usually, but not always, those that provide little involvement with substantial stimulus. They require more active participation on the part of the user, including the perception of abstract patterning and simultaneous comprehension of all parts. Therefore, according to McLuhan cool media include television, as well as the seminar and cartoons. McLuhan describes the term "cool media" as emerging from jazz and popular music and, in this context, is used to mean "detached." [43]
This concept appears to force media into binary categories. However, McLuhan's hot and cool exist on a continuum: they are more correctly measured on a scale than as dichotomous terms.[7]

cell phone photos
I recently etched a mirror and built a waterfall for a bar in a restaurant in my hood. This morning I was walking in town and I saw a bunch of firetrucks in front of the place. It seems there was a fire in the basement this morning. I dont think it was terribly big fire but smoke damage is very hard to deal with. I hope they get back on feet and work through the mess. Life is often one step forward, two steps back. The trick is to keep walking.

etched panels by gardega
I etched these many years ago for The Natural History Museum many years ago. I never got around to photographing them. All I remember is they were heavy as hell and I had to carry them up and down stairs to my basement studio. It was utter hell and a quick deadline. But I got em done. Some of them were etched by another glass company but I dont remember whats what and one set of names looks like another set of names. These pieces will long outlast me.
